However, he still suits up on occasion and remains highly competitive. Pegram has a dry, often self-deprecating, sense of humor that allowed him to seamlessly transition into a career as a television color commentator. That dual-role as team owner and front-running rider was at the center of the reality show “Superbike Family.” After earlier starring as a factory rider, he successfully founded and managed his own highly professional race team. Late in his career, the Ohioan not only excelled on track, but also on the other side of the fence. Pegram added another Half-Mile win in ‘94 before shifting his focus to roadracing, where he enjoyed a long, extensive career that saw him score multiple AMA Superbike race victories and later graduate to WorldSBK. A year later he improved to fourth overall with a Mile triumph in the books, trailing only legends Chris Carr, Scott Parker, and Ricky Graham in the points. In ‘91, he finished fifth in points with a Half-Mile win to his name. The “Worm” turned pro back in the late ‘80s, and by the early ‘90s, he was one of the five best dirt trackers in the Grand National Championship.
But whenever he chooses to don a helmet and leathers, he still has the pace to run with the best of them. Long-time roadrace and flat track standout Larry Pegram is mostly retired from racing these days.
